An Intimate Wedding at Massey College, University of Toronto
Their wedding handout opened with a conversation
About how marriage wasn't something they'd always planned on, how their relationship had always been a daily choice. “Then, after time and a little space, we realized we’d been slowly marrying each other all along. So we decided to finish the job.”
Marguerite and Craig's wedding at Massey College was exactly what they wanted: small, intentional, and entirely their own. The guest list was family and a handful of people who might as well be. The venue, a functioning graduate residence on the University of Toronto campus, gave them the courtyard for their ceremony, the lounge for cocktail hour, and the library for dinner. And the last one is exactly as wonderful as it sounds.
When we arrived they were in full coordination mode, managing the small venue team while trying to get themselves ready. M&C crossed paths earlier in the day, but stepping outside together to shoot was the first real moment they'd had to just be with each other. They needed a minute. We gave it to them.
The sunlight during the ceremony was extraordinary. They'd asked us to hold back during the vows as they wanted their guests fully present, and they wanted to feel it themselves. This worked well for our documentary wedding photography approach, as were still able to capture a few candid and emotional moments without interrupting.
Dinner in the library was truly a highlight— warm, colourful, and full of great conversation. The smaller guest count meant M&C could actually spend time with every person in the room, unhurried. The dancing almost didn't happen (they just wanted to party, no first dance required), but their guests had other ideas. Once everyone was on the floor, the rest of the night took care of itself.
If you're dreaming of an intimate Toronto wedding with real character, Massey College is more than worth a look.
