A Living Room Civil Ceremony, Shot Entirely on Film
Some sessions are just made for film and, without a doubt, this was one of them.
An at-home civil ceremony with immediate family. The living room of the bride's family home, dressed up just enough to feel special without losing the warmth of a space that's actually lived in. A small gathering of the people who matter most, and two people choosing each other in the most honest, unhurried way possible. The whole thing felt like it was designed for a roll of film and a quiet afternoon.
We've always believed that film slows everything down and on a wedding day, that's a gift! There's an intention that comes with shooting analogue that's difficult to replicate any other way. Every frame is considered and every moment earns its place. This leaves you with a set of images that feel less like documentation and more like memory; warm, a little soft around the edges, perfectly imperfect, and completely alive.
For a ceremony this intimate, that quality felt especially right. The subtle grain, the rich tones, the way film renders the light coming through a window or the glow of a room full of people you love— it brought something to these photos that digital photography can’t replicate. There's an honesty to film that resonates in a way that's hard to articulate but you can immediately felt when you see it.
The ceremony itself was short and sweet and completely full. Everyone crowded into the living room, someone definitely cried, and before we knew it they were married! These are the kinds of weddings we feel truly honoured to photograph— small in scale, enormous in feeling.
If you're planning something intimate— a civil ceremony, an at-home elopement, or any kind of celebration that prioritizes the people over the production— we'd love to be part of it! And if you've been curious about adding film to your day, take a look at what we've been shooting.
