A Multi-Generational Family Session During Peak Fall

One of our favourite things about this work is getting to show up for the same people over and over again

Watching relationships grow, families expand, and chapters unfold in real time— that's exactly what made this extended family session in Mississauga so special.

Some sessions just have everything going for them from the start; great light, great people, and a backyard full of peak fall foliage. .We've been lucky enough to photograph Lauren & Chris’ wedding, Elizabeth & Matthew’s engagement + wedding, and now we can add a multi-generational family gathering for no reason at all but to have beautiful photos together. No occasion, no milestone, just everyone in one place at the same time. Honestly, this is our favourite kind of reason to book a family photo session.

When Lauren mentioned this would be an extended session with three families, a handful of kids, two dogs, and eight adults, we were completely on board. The backyard alone was worth it: lush, private, and absolutely glowing with fall colour. The weekend cooperated in the best way, giving us that warm, golden light that makes October photos feel like something out of a dream.

Multi-generational family sessions have a beautiful energy to them. Sometimes it’s a little chaotic with toddlers with their own agendas, babies who operate on their own schedule, dogs who are absolutely not taking direction, but that's also exactly what makes the photos feel so alive and true to you. We broke the session into individual family groupings, then brought everyone together for the full family shots, which gave everyone their own dedicated time, while still capturing the whole picture.

And the "just because" aspect of it all? That's something we love to champion. You don't need a baby on the way, a milestone birthday, or a special anniversary to book a family session. Sometimes the best photos come from a random fall afternoon when everyone has an available evening, and the light is doing something beautiful outside.

If you're thinking about an extended family session, whether it's in your own backyard, a local park, or anywhere across the GTA, we'd love to be there for it— get in touch here.
