The Couple Who Didn’t Think They Were Photo People

Wide landscape photo of an engaged couple walking along the waterfront at sunset, a setting that evokes both Toronto and Vancouver

We hear it more than you might think: “we’re not really photo people.”

And every single time, we take it as a quiet little challenge, because in our experience there's no such thing! There are only people who haven't yet had a photographer make them feel comfortable enough to forget the camera is there.

That's genuinely one of the things we care most about in our work. So many couples come into a session feeling self-conscious, unsure of where to put their hands, convinced they're going to look awkward in every single frame. Our job,  above anything else, is to change that. To create an environment where you feel relaxed, at ease, and like yourself, so that what comes through in the photos is actually you and not a stiff, uncomfortable version of you trying to pose. When that happens, everything else falls into place.

Brittaney & Amaechi came in with that familiar disclaimer, and by the end of our session it was like those words weren’t even said. They were laughing, moving naturally together, and genuinely having fun, which is exactly what we're always working towards. Their dog Yiayia came along for the session too, and honestly, dogs have a way of making everything more candid and joyful without even trying.

The setting didn't hurt either; Colonel Samuel Smith Park in Etobicoke is one of our favourite waterfront spots in the city. It’s open, quiet, and absolutely stunning at golden hour. The sun dropping over Lake Ontario as the evening wound down was the kind of light that makes every frame feel effortless. It also happens to be a meaningful location for Brittaney and Amaechi, which adds that extra layer of warmth that makes your session unique to you.

Feeling a little camera-shy? That's okay, it's kind of our speciality ;) Reach out here and let’s chat about it.

Brittaney & Amaechi were kind enough to leave us one of the most thoughtful reviews we've ever received, which we've included below. We're truly so grateful!

"My fiancé and I recently had the pleasure of working with Rosewood Studios for our engagement photos, and we couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, our experience with them was nothing short of outstanding.

One of the standout features of our experience was Rosewood's flexibility with scheduling. They were incredibly accommodating and worked with us to find the perfect date that would optimize the weather conditions for our outdoor shoot. This level of attention to detail really set them apart.

As a couple who doesn't consider ourselves 'photo people,' we were initially nervous about the prospect of looking awkward in our pictures. However, Stef, our photographer, immediately put us at ease. Her warm and friendly demeanor helped us relax, and she encouraged us to have fun throughout the session. The result? Natural, genuine moments captured beautifully on film.

What truly set Rosewood Studios apart was their commitment to getting to know us as a couple. They took the time to understand our personalities, preferences, and the unique dynamic between us. This personal touch allowed our true selves to shine through in the photos, resulting in a collection of images that felt authentic and representative of who we are as a couple.

Overall, our experience with Rosewood Studios exceeded our expectations in every way. We wholeheartedly recommend Rosewood Studios to anyone seeking exceptional photography services."
