Outdoor Waterfront Wedding on Lake Simcoe

There are some properties like this that genuinely make you stop and wonder why anyone bothers with a traditional wedding venue at all.

Steph and Alex both got ready on the property in separate spaces, which made for a calm, unhurried morning and gave us time to really settle into the location before the day picked up. These two are wonderfully warm people— Steph's energy is all smiles and laughter, and Alex has this gentle, quietly devoted quality that comes through completely in every photo. We'd photographed their engagement session together beforehand, and their wedding day felt like a natural continuation of that comfort and ease.

They opted for a first look which we are always in favour for but with a wedding this size, was a very good call. A big bridal party and a large extended family meant a lot of group photos to get through, and doing the first look ahead of the ceremony meant we could knock out a significant portion of those before the day really got underway. Alex's reaction when Steph appeared at the top of the steps was so genuine and beautiful, it was one of those moments where you don't need to do anything except make sure you're in the right position.

The ceremony took place outdoors by the water, against a rock facade, and once we were outside we essentially stayed there for the rest of the day. The weather was perfect— which is never guaranteed for a fall wedding— and the late afternoon light did everything right. We took a brief detour to the dock just before dinner for sunset portraits that we're still thinking about.

The reception was held under a tent on the property, a great all-weather option that kept the outdoor feel without the risk, and dinner was celebratory from the start, with a high-energy hora that got everyone immediately moving. The polka dancers who came in later were an absolute highlight. The rest of the evening was exactly what you'd hope for: dancing, laughter, and a room full of people who were genuinely, visibly thrilled for these two.

If you're planning an outdoor or waterfront wedding in cottage country, we'd love to be part of it!
