Sofia & Craig's Trendy Wedding in Yorkville

this was such a unique wedding for so many reasons…

Sofia & Craig booked with us early but when one of our other couples had rescheduled to this same date— after two whole years of postponements and date changes!!— we couldn’t say no to any of them so we had to do some team rearranging on our part (which is why we love working with each other— we’re interchangeable at a moment’s notice and never disrupt your day!) It was so appreciated when we let S&C know and their response was “[…] We know we are in good hands.”

Secondly, the Windsor Arms Hotel is a historic (1932!) European style hotel in Yorkville; having such a beautiful space to shoot in, in the heart of Toronto, is always a luxury! When we first arrived and took a little tour around the hotel scouting for photo locations we were blown away at how incredible everything looked, it was almost surreal. Sofia & Craig looked dropped dead gorgeous, and being in such a unique space we knew we had to do them justice with their portraits so I think it’s safe to say that this is the most editorial style, dark and moody, artsy, trendy, all of the buzzwords, wedding we have ever shot. And it was so much fun!! We’re so grateful that they put their trust in us in not only making a last minute shooter change, but in giving us the leeway to try new things with them and to be so patient and looking fabulous at the same time (it’s not easy!)

The ceremony space was in a great hall and there were a couple of things we loved about it— the wide space of the aisles made it easier for us to run around, having a balcony is always a great point of view to shoot from, and the energy of their wonderful officiant, Francesca Bonta of Celestial Ceremonies. Something we’ve never heard before that we absolutely loved, was right before the ceremony began Francesca encouraged everyone to take a quick selfie and send it to S&C to let them know that they were at their wedding. It was a fun way to gather everyone and for the guests to also take a quick snap of the bride and groom at the alter before the ceremony began, so that they can then put their phone away and be fully present.

following the ceremony everyone went into a separate bar area to enjoy some cocktails and mingling…

while the ceremony space was being transformed into the dinner space, and what a beautiful transformation it was! With a long head table for their respective bridal parties and immediate families, surrounded by large tables for their guests all around the rest of the space— including inside of the alcoves!— it was a sight to see from the balcony. Craig’s aunt’s MC’d the night and brought such a joyous and lighthearted energy that had everyone laughing all night long. While we weren’t with them too far into the night, we did spend enough time with them to hear a couple of speeches, to chat with some of their guests, and to get a fairly solid idea of how much everyone truly love and adores them.
