Studio Family Session at Preto Loft

We’ve said it before and we’ll said it again, and again, and again: we love family sessions with older kids!

Don’t get us wrong, we understand the importance of capturing those early baby memories that can fly by way too quickly, but when it comes to families growing up and everyone suddenly having 600 things on their schedules, especially on the weekends, squeezing in a formal family photo session can be almost impossible.

When Marissa reached out to shoot she knew she wanted to shoot sometime in the spring but at the time it was too far in advance to know for certain what the weather was going to be like so we put a pin in it and tentatively planned for a studio shoot. As we got closer to the weather was actually holding up but in classic spring fashion one week it felt like summer and the next week we were backed to grey days and snow so we decided to go for a studio shoot 100%. A studio is always our first recommendation for winter or spring sessions of any kind; it gives us a weather proof option to shoot on the day we plan for, it makes changing outfits much easier since you have an indoor change room or bathroom, and if it does happen to be a nice day and you still want some outdoor shots we can always pop outside before or after shooting. And with studio spaces that are as beautiful, accessible, and filled with so much natural light as Preto Loft has, you really can’t go wrong!

With this session with the Tanzola Family I am so thrilled with all of the combinations of photos we got, from formal posed set ups stacking everyone in different ways, to more casual and playful photos with just the kids, and even some of Marissa and Chris (mom and dad) together, all against a timeless neutral backdrop in the Solarium.
